Qatar Airways CEO would take Boeing CEO job

Boeing CEO Jim McNerney had better look out — another industry CEO says he would take the job, and do better at it.

Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker has not been shy about his disappointment with Boeing’s delays for the 787 Dreamliner. Earlier this week, he spoke in Washington, D.C. at a media luncheon.

Qatar’s Tornado tower tallest in Middle East and Africa

Tornado Tower, a unique 52-storey commercial office tower in West Bay, Doha, has been awarded the 2009 prodigious accolade for Best Tall Building in the Middle East and Africa by the Council for Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).

Tornado tower is being developed by Qatar Investment Projects and Development Holding Company (Qipco), a leading shareholding company in the country. The tower stands 200 meters high with total leasable area of 58,029 sq m.

It is one of four tall buildings in the world to receive recognition from the awards committee of CTBUH, the world’s leading authority on the design, construction and development of tall buildings, a Qipco statement said.

The other areas being The Americas – Manitoba Hydro Place in the city of Winnipeg, Canada; Europe – The Broadgate Tower in the city of London, UK; Asia & Australasia – Linked Hybrid Building, Beijing, China.

Turkey PM:Iran,Russia,Qatar May Sell Europe Gas Via Nabucco

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said Monday that his government wants Iran to sell gas to Europe through the planned Nabucco gas pipeline when conditions allow, the Ihlas News Agency, or IHA, reported.

Speaking at the official intergovernmental signing ceremony of the pipeline, Erdogan said he believes that one day it will be possible to sell Russian gas to Europe via Nabucco.

“Actually, also Qatar could play a serious role in [the] Nabucco project by a liquefied gas terminal to be constructed in Turkey,” Erdogan said.

Erdogan said the Turkish government wants Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Iraq and Egypt to initially become part of the European energy security equation.

Vodafone to be listed on Qatar Exchange on July 22

Vodafone Qatar will be listed on the Qatar Exchange (QE) on July 22 with foreigners allowed to trade in its shares.

Data for shareholders will be available at brokerage firms on July 18, QE announced yesterday.

Once listed, 100 percent of the company’s authorised share capital will be open to foreign investment, with no limits on foreign ownership, a Vodafone spokesperson said.
