Iranian Interior Minister Sadeq Mahsouli will travel to Doha in a near future, an Interior Ministry official said on Saturday.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran seeks expansion of multilateral ties between Tehran and Doha”, said Ahmad Hosseini, the Interior Ministry director for international affairs.

Talking to the Qatari Interior Ministry director for international cooperation Saud Abdollah Zaid al Mahmoud, Hosseini said that the Iranian interior minister’s travel to Qatar will help expand relation between two countries.

Pointing to the negotiations on the security convention draft between Iran and Qatar, Hosseini said the countries have finalized the draft.

He added two countries share common views on the convention’s general content and believe it can provide a ground to boost the interaction and increase the level of cooperation between the governments.

The official went on to say that the Interior Ministry’s duties are not only bound to security affairs but it includes economic, social and construction sectors.

Hosseini said that facilitation of travel for the citizens of the two countries, including visa and reduction of other formalities for Iranians residing in Qatar, encouraging Iran’s attendance in the Qatari governmental exhibitions are issues that the interior minister intends to examine during his visit.

For his part, Qatari official Saud Abdollah Zaid al Mahmoud said that Qatari delegation’s aim of traveling to Tehran is to strengthen cooperation between the countries, adding that Doha seeks expansion of ties with Tehran.

He added that a joint committee will be formed between the two countries’ interior ministries in the journey
