Qatar League Saturday Review

Defending champions Al Gharafa were held to a 3-3 draw by Qatar SC in the fifth round of the Qatar League.

Qatar SC took the lead after only ten minutes through Qatar striker Sebastian Soria before Iraqi midfielder Qusai Munir made it 2-0 with a powerful shot from distance four minutes later.

However, Al Gharafa pulled a goal back through Younis Mahmoud after 33 minutes before they levelled in the fifth minute of stoppage time at the end of the first half through Brazilian midfielder Juninho with a powerful shot.

Al Gharafa took the lead for the first time on the night in the 55th minute with a powerful header from Belal Mohamad, but Qatar SC equalised after 73 minutes through Yousef Ahmed.

Al Gharafa remained in second place in the standing on 11 points, just one ahead of third-placed Qatar SC.

Al Sadd strengthened their position at the top of the table thanks to a 3-1 win over Al Wakra.

After a scoreless first half, Al Wakra took a surprise lead four minutes after the break when Moroccan striker Adil Ramzi beat two defenders before scoring easily.

Al Sadd levelled after 55 minutes through Taher Zakaria and they should have taken the lead eight minutes later, but Afonso Alves’ shot hit the crossbar.

The former Middlesbrough man was denied again by the woodwork five minutes later.

However, Alves did score after 73 minutes and Abdulrab Al Yazidi made it 3-1 in the second minute of stoppage time before missing a penalty two minutes later
