Qatar Airways are trying to develop a biofuel that will enable them to keep on flying and become carbon neutral.
The project will be a joint affair between Qatar Airways, Qatar Science & Technology Park, and Qatar Petroleum. The trio has established the Qatar Advanced Biofuel Platform which will focus on devoloping economically viable and sustainable biofuel production along with the aspects of market and strategic analysis.

Qatar Airways is set to open direct flights from Incheon International Airport to Doha beginning at the end of March.
The direct flights will undercut the flight time of the previous route –via Osaka — by five hours.
The Doha International Airport is in the middle of a fierce competition to attract more air traffic with Dubai and is now going through phase 1 of its renovations to be completed in 2011 that looks to make significant upgrades in its facilities.

Qatar Duty Free has launched its latest inflight magazine offering all Qatar Airways passengers an even greater choice of products than ever before.
The 124-page Shopping Extravaganza Magazine is packed full of new and best-selling products including fragrances for men and women, designer make-up, jewelry and electronic gadgets.
Qatar Airways passengers will be spoilt for choice when they browse through the new glossy magazine which contains not only 107 brand new products but also 56 of the best-selling products of all time.
In addition to being the first airline in the world to stock fragrances from leading designer, Narciso Rodriguez, onboard at duty free prices, Qatar Airways is also the only airline in the Middle East to be able to offer its passenger the chance to purchase the GARMIN Satellite Navigation system for Europe and North America as well as a whole range of Jo Malone products.

Qatar Airways plans to sell shares in an initial public offering in five years’ time, Al Arabiya Television reports Monday, citing the carrier’s Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker.
Qatar Airways is waiting for the right time to sell shares and “that would be possible after three consecutive years of profit gains,” Al Baker told Al Arabiya.

Qatar Airways has taken delivery of two Boeing 777-200 Long Range aircraft and two Airbus A320s, raising its fleet size up to 76.
One of the two newly-delivered Boeing 777-200LRs will be used to boost frequency on the recently-launched non-stop Doha-Melbourne route from the current three-flights-a-week to daily beginning January 1, while the second Boeing 777-200LR has been deployed on flights to the Far East.

The Brumby Labor Government has welcomed Qatar Airways, the national carrier for the State of Qatar, to Victoria as the airline’s first passenger flight from Doha touched down at Melbourne Airport last night.
Qatar Airways will initially operate three flights per week from Melbourne to Doha, with daily services to commence at the start of January next year.

Qatar Airways today revealed that Copenhagen and Barcelona will join the airline’s ever-expanding route network during the airline’s summer schedule which begins at the end of March 2010.
The announcement follows months of industry speculation over the Doha-based carrier’s plans to launch two new unnamed European destinations.
Commencement of four weekly flights to Copenhagen, the capital city of Denmark, will see the airline significantly increase its Scandinavian presence. Qatar Airways currently serves the neighbouring Swedish capital Stockholm non-stop from Doha, a route launched two years ago.
The airline recently announced that it will boost capacity on its Stockholm route with frequency increasing to daily from March next year. With Copenhagen being added, Qatar Airways will further strengthen its operations in Scandinavia, cementing its place in the market as the only GCC carrier to serve the region.

Qatar is on track to open its new $14 billion international airport in 2011 as the world’s largest gas exporter looks to diversify government revenues and stimulate employment, an official said on Sunday.
Speaking at an aviation conference in Doha, Qatar, the chairman of the country’s civil aviation authority said the new airport would have capacity for 24 million passengers and cargo of 1.4 million tonnes a year.
“The new $14 billion airport will be over 22 kilometres and open in 2011,” Adul Aziz Al Noaimi said.
Qatar has been pouring billions of dollars into infrastructure development to diversify the economy away from hydrocarbons, help propel itself on the international arena and become a transport hub between Europe and Asia.

Qatar Airways is flying to its 10th destination in India – Goa – from today.
The inaugural flight to Dabolim Airport near Goan capital Panaji will leave Doha at 9-25 tonight.
Goa will be the national carrier’s 84th destination worldwide and connected to Doha four times a week.
Qatar Airways will now be connecting India with 64 weekly flights – the airline’s single largest country in the network in terms of destinations.
The national carrier’s non-stop Goa service will leave Doha at 9.25pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
