Qatar defeated Singapore by three wickets in a close match to make the semi-finals of the ACC under-17 event here yesterday.

After suffering a crushing loss to Nepal in their opening game, Qatar rallied brilliantly to defeat Hong Kong in their second outing, with yesterday’s victory over Singapore putting them in the last four of the tournament. A fighting unbeaten 70 by man of the match Taha Muhammed saw Qatar through after Singapore set them a target of 185, victory coming with four balls to spare in the 40-over match.

Taha, who came in at number three after Qatar lost opener Faizan Ahmed for 8, anchored the innings superbly as wickets fell regularly at the other end. He faced 101 balls for his 70 and hit eight boundaries.

Ali Ishtiaq and Taimoor Sajjad chipped in with 33 and 28 respectively as Qatar made 186 for 7 in 39.2 overs. Sarangdev Krishnan and Abhiraj Singh claimed two wickets apiece for Singapore. Earlier, Timothy Singham cracked a fine 94 as Singapore made 184 for 8.
