Turkish State Minister Selma Aliye Kavaf held a series of talks in Qatar on Saturday.

Minister Kavaf, who is currently in Qatari capital Doha as the formal guest of Amir Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, met with the country’s Minister of Culture & Heritage Hamad bin Abd al-Aziz Al-Kawari.

During the meeting, Kavaf said that Istanbul, which got the 2010 European Capital of Culture title, and Doha, which was chosen the 2010 Arab Capital of Culture, would give messages of peace and dialogue to the world this year.

Expressing the importance of alliance between civilizations, Kavaf said, “2010 will be a year of opportunities in that sense. The world’s eyes will be set on these two cities and the messages to be given from these places will have repercussions all over the world”.

Kavaf also said that she hoped Turkey and Qatar would improve their cooperation in culture, tourism and other fields.

Qatari Minister Al-Kawari said in his part that Turkey had an important mission both in Europe and the Middle East.

Praising the progress Turkey had made in recent years, Al-Kawari said he hoped relations between Turkey and Qatar would keep improving.

Following her meeting with Al-Kawari, Kavaf attended the wedding ceremony of Amir Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani’s daughter.
