Spaniard Quiros leads at Qatar Open

Alvaro Quiros was in scintillating form today as he carded a third round eight-under-par 64 to secure a one shot lead at the Qatar Open.

The 26-year-old made a brilliant start to his round today with five birdies in the first nine holes. He added further birdies at holes 13,16 and 17 to finish on 16-under-par. Quiros now holds a one shot lead over South African Louis Oosthuizen.

Oosthuzien started round three at the top of the leaderboard with a four-stroke lead and started the round well with a birdie on the first hole, but his lead was cut on the fifth hole when he could only manage a double bogey. Oosthuzien, however, recovered to card a solid round of 69.

Swede Henrik Stenson and Dutchman Maarten Lafeber both carded rounds of 66 to move to joint third on 12-under-par. Scotland’s Andrew Coltart is still in contention after a third round 70 saw him finish on 11-under-par.

But the man of the round was Quiros and he has given himself a great chance of lifting his third European Tour title.

“I can’t even remember when was the last time I won. I will be fighting for the trophy. Today was a good day of putting,” said Quiros.

“I have been telling people that I am not just a long hitter. It has been a lucky week for me. I could see this score coming.”

World number two Sergio Garcia and the English pair of Lee Westwood and Paul Broadhurst are in share with four other players on nine-under-par.
